About Castaways Racing
We conduct our races on the first and third Saturday of each month starting at 9 a.m., weather permitting. Guests are welcome to spectate. Our race lake is located at Veterans Memorial Park in Fruitland Park, FL. The address is 506 W. Berckman Street.
If you are interested in racing, it is suggested that you visit the race lake to watch one of our races first. In order to race with us you need to become a member of our club and join NAMBA (North American Model Boat Association). namba.com/content/default.asp
You will need to show your NAMBA membership card to the Race Director before your first race and complete a "Qualifier" race to demonstrate that you are able to adequately control your boat. We have 10 race classes which are described in our Racing Rules. We only race electric (battery operated) boats.
An email is sent out to our members several days before a race day. Sign up for the classes you wish to race in by replying to the email. We limit the number of boats in each class to 5 boats, but if more than 5 racers sign up for any class, the class will be split. You need to sign up before 6 p.m. on the Thursday before a race day. An email will be sent out no later than Friday morning to confirm that the race is on for that Saturday. If there are not enough racers signed up or there is rain in the forecast the races will be cancelled for that day. There may or may not be a make-up day scheduled.
We have 2 six-month seasons. Spring season is from January 1st through June 30th. Fall season is from July 1st through December 31st. At the end of each season, awards are given to the winners in each class. At the end of each year we award a Driver of the Year award to the driver who accumulated the most points in all classes and both seasons combined during that year.
